Istanbul – akhbar el balad- The poet Nuri Pakdil is considered one of the strongest lovers, but lovers of Jerusalem and its people, where he feels the spirituality lost days, so that he is nicknamed in Turkey the poet of Jerusalem
This interview was the first of its kind with an Arab media, especially from Jerusalem We thank everyone who contributed to the success of this interview with this well known figure in Jerusalem as well. He has written several books in literature and culture and contributed to the establishment of several literary magazines in Turkey

Can you tell us who is Nuri Pakdil?
- was born in 1934, Maraş. I accept the 29th of May, the day our beautiful Istanbul became muslim, as my birthday.
First of all, I’m a writer. My writing designates my identity and my personality. To me, writing is a kind of getting into a battle, a war as my writing depicts my fight against every kind of idolism, every kind of alienation. It reflects a reaction to, a criticism against imperialism, the system of exploitation. My plays, poems, essays, all of my 43 titles published from Edebiyat Dergisi Yayinlari should be read in this approach.
My unshakable devotion to Islam religion forms my identity, I am proud of it. I am side with my civilization’s values. I am a defender of Islamic civilization. I want our civilization’s right back that usurped by alienation processes.
Me and all muslims can only have one leader, one teacher, one commander. And that leader is our beloved Prophet Muhammed.
Why are you have especial relationship with kudus?
- I am a writer who believed in the Palestinian cause, and made an effort for this cause as much as one can.
In my world, Istanbul has a special place, but al-Quds has a more special place. One can not understand the life, the reason of the existence without the love of Mecca, Madinah, Quds and Istanbul.
Quds is the last place that our eternal leader, our great Prophet Muhammad set his foot before the ascension. The universality of our act starts from there. That is why we love Quds so much.
One half of our heart is Mecca, the other half is Madina. Quds lies on it like a thin veil.
To defend Quds is to defend real freedom. What we owe to captive Quds is to defend Quds, to bring freedom.
3- you wrote poems about kudus, can you tells us about that, and read some of it to us ?
From Algeria to Philippines Islands, Muslim people fight against every kind of colonialism, the hellish rules of the West. They withstand for an honourable freedom.
Through the history, we were sided with mutual culture and belief. Today, too, we need to be side by side and understand this mutuality.
I, as a Muslim, try to build strong cultural bonds with Muslim people. In this sense, I published ‘Arabian Poem Anthology’ a translation from French. Arabian Story Anthology was also published from Edebiyat Dergisi Yayinlari.
I want to read my poem ‘Anneler ve Kudüsler’ (Mothers and Quds’) which was published back at 1972, Edebiyat Dergisi. It is also the title of my poem collection.
MOTHERS AND QUDS’
Live Mount Sinai,
So you shall know where is Quds.
I carry Quds with me like a wristwatch
Set it not to Quds
And your time will be wasted
Frozen it will be
Your eyes shall stop to see
Come
Be a mother
Because the mother
Makes Quds from a child
When the man become a father
A Quds come to life inside him
Walk, my fellow!

what was your feeling when you visit kudus for the first time? and the feeling when you saw the masjd el aqsa?
- I was in Quds in March 2015. My first impressions: Seeing Quds was extremely exciting, for sure. Contrary to belief, Quds is not a desert, but a woodland.
We prayed Friday pray at Masjid Al-Aqsa, meet with mufti, visited el-Halil, Nablus and Ramallah. We attend the opening ceremony of Nuri Pakdil Turk Kız Okulu. One of our friends who accompanied us from TIKA, translated my speech to Arabic. I wish I could make my speech in Arabic myself.
In Ramallah, we visited graveyard of Yaser Arafat, one of the most prominent figures of The Filistin cause. It was a very humble graveyard, there were only two guardians. We prayed for him.
We went to Zeytin Dağı. And we remembered the texts of Falih Rıfkı Atay on Zeytin Dağı. Though now it is invaded by Israelis. Everywhere are full of Israelis’ homes and graveyards.
The terror of Israel can be clearly observed in Palestine. All streets are crawling with Israeli soldiers. We frequently struggled with them. Palestine is fenced with a kind of Berlin Wall. Israelis restrain the Palestinians from praying at Mescid Al-Aqsa.
In the not too distant past, all the lands of Palestine were part of the glorious Ottoman Empire. When Abdulhamid II was overthrown, the colonialist’s plans to divide Middle East took effect.
The State of Israel which is founded by the west (including Russians) in order to tear down the unity of belief in Middle East, now stands as an epitome of western imperialism and cruelty at the Palestinian lands it invaded. The jews are committing crime for themselves directly and for the west by proxy.
do you think there is special relationship between the turkish people and kudus ?! and why ?
- Values of civilization of our people has been derived from Islamic teachings. Turkish people are Middle Eastern, they are one of the folks that builds Middle Eastern civilization.
In Turkey, one of the main goals of the 1923 alienation attempts was to disconnect us from the very same circle of civilization. But, fortunately, the despots could not achieved this, they couldn’t take away the love Quds and Palestine from our people’s heart. This love grows exponentially every single day.
My greatest dream is to see a peaceful Turkey dominated by Islamic ideology, and freed from idolatry, and to see the unity of all muslims in the world, and to see Quds in peace.
finally we would like to ask you to give us ( the kudus people ) some advice
- The Westerners still have this fear of middle east in their deepest hearts. This fear is the possibility of joining together to form a union and restore Islamic civilization.
To prevent this, the western powers wrathfully attack the muslim people. If the muslim societies band together again, if the middle eastern folks give rebirth to Islamic civilization, then this age’s derangement can be fixed.
